It has been over five years since the Diversity Generals returned to Milwaukee and since the nationwide We See You, White American Theatre movement came to prominence. Over that time, The Diversity Generals has seen a number of auditioners increase each year.

However, based on our observations of the implementation of diverse casting in the metro-Milwaukee area and in data coming out regarding diversity in the performing arts(or a lack thereof) in neighboring regions and nationwide, there is still a lot of work to be done. While some improvements have been made, at least in terms of words put on a page, the actual results onstage seem to have been minimal at best.

So we think accountability in the form of data for local companies will be another necessary step towards positive change. Our team has begun to gather data, utilizing publicly available casting information for almost every professional and semi-professional company in the metro-Milwaukee area dating back to 2019.

We now ask you, the community and companies in it, to assist us in making sure our data is as accurate as possible. This means reaching as many artists who have worked on or behind Milwaukee area stages as possible. So please share this initiative to give us a clearer image. This is especially true for performers who have since left the area.

By filling out our short survey you will help us better track the diversity on our stages. Personal information will never be made publicly available and will be used exclusively in the verification of data being used to create this community resource.

The deadline for submission is September 30th, 2025.

Our team plans on reviewing the data and releasing this report in October 2025. This launch will also include additional resources for actors to talk about their experiences and share areas of growth they want to see from those in positions of authority. We will also be resuming our diversity panels for theatre leadership.
